Can
I become a friend of the
museum?
The Society for the Preservation
of Argentomagus Archaeological
Site (ASSAA), created in
1962 by a handful of enthusiasts,
was at the origin of the
first organised digs at the
Gallo-Roman site.
The first archaeological
museum was quickly founded
bringing together collections
from a number of digs such
as the necropolis, the fountain
and the theatre.
In 1980, following greater
public recognition, the ASSAA
initiated the enormous project
of building an archaeological
museum more suitable for
housing the collections and
public viewing.
In 1995, the ASSAA relinquished
the management of the digs
and channelled its energies
into becoming the Society
for the Preservation of Argentomagus
Archaeological Site and Friends
of the Museum.
