Like
all the large towns of
the time, Argentomagus
was supplied by the great
centres of Italian glass
production. From the
first century it imported
cups, ribbed or plain
bowls in monochrome,
multi-coloured or filigreed
glass and moulded goblets
decorated with lotus
buds.
Fragments
of all these receptacles
have been found throughout
the residential areas and
near the "Champ
de l'Image" necropolis.
Additionally,
there is a large presence
of blue-green glass in
Argentomagus, unfortunately
very fragmented.
In
the tombs of the Champ
de l'Image cemetery,
glassware is better preserved.
Here we find spherical
glass urns and offerings
including bowls, small
dishes, square or hexagonal
bottles, an aryballe, a "baby's
bottle" in bluish glass
and an exceptional goblet
in transparent glass engraved
with facets.
